Amy Dyer’s love of plants began while gardening with her Mamaw Dot and her Aunt Donna in Southwest Ohio when she was barely old enough to walk. She got her green thumb from them and quickly developed a knack for growing pretty flowers and houseplants.

She began her career in the green industry at a local chain garden center where she started as a yard girl loading mulch and soil for customers, and ended several years later as a store manager when the company decided to go out of business.

Even with the loss of a job she loved, Amy was still passionate about gardening and decided the next step was to advance her education in the field of horticulture. While attending school, she completed several internships including:

Assistant Perennial Production Manager on a 300+ acre farm in Beavercreek Ohio

Landscape Foreman at a large landscaping firm in South Vienna Ohio

Assistant Production Manager at a 15 acre under glass greenhouse facility producing annuals for a large chain of home improvement stores.

Amy did all this while planting and maintaining gardens for family and friends in her spare time. After graduating from Clark State with two Associate’s Degrees in the horticulture field she moved to Charlottesville Virginia to accept a position as a landscape gardener for the City of Charlottesville Parks Department. After familiarizing herself with the area and the exciting new plant material available in zone 7, Amy developed a love for the Piedmont area and began to see unique opportunities for fine gardening endeavors.

Amy then worked as a certified horticulturist for LH Gardens where she perfected her fine gardening techniques under the direction of the fabulous Leslie Harris. After gaining that valuable experience she felt confident and prepared to launch her own fine gardening firm.

Dyer Gardens was established in October of 2018 and is growing more quickly than Amy could have imagined. This only solidified her hunch about the need for fantastic and personable gardeners in the area.
